Basics of time clock conversion
Wait...why do I need the time clock conversion?
usually you canEmployee time trackingin hours and minutes. But hours and minutes do not directly correspond to the money owed. Why? Because there are 60 minutes in an hour, not 100. You need to convert the time to decimals to calculate the exact pay rate for your employees.
This is crucial for hourly employees who are frequentnon-exempt workers. It is also important to include lunch breaks, general rest periods,overtime pay, OfVacation.
Consider Melanie's case. This week you worked 37 hours and 42 minutes (no overtime). The hourly rate you will receive is $15.
First you need to get information from your weekly time card or time sheet which contains yoursentry and exit times(psssst.... freeTime card templates here). You then multiply the number of hours you worked by your hourly rate to getDetermine your total weekly earnings.
However, if you take 37 hours and 42 minutes as is, you get 37.42. This is wrong because an hour is equal to 60 minutes and not 100 minutes. You need to convert the minutes to decimals.
The correct calculation looks like this:
42 minutes/60 = 0.7
Then you need to add the minutes converted to hours:
37 + 0,7 = 37,7
This means that 37 hours and 42 minutes becomes 37.7 hours in decimal time.
Therefore, based on total hours, Melanie's weekly wage is:
37.7 hours x $15 = $565.50
Remember, this is from Melanie.gross salary. To get your net salary, you must take into accountdeductions and taxes.
Minutes to decimal time conversion table
Manually converting employee hours and minutes to decimals (hundredths) is time-consuming and error-prone.
If you don't want to use a conversion calculator (like above), another basic tool is a decimal conversion table. For example, if you need to convert 17 hours and 25 minutes to decimal, you can easily use the conversion table. and see that this equals 17.42 hours.
military time change
In addition to converting the hours and minutes to decimals, you may also need to convert the time from a 24-hour format to a 12-hour (am/pm) format. This is necessary, for example, if your employees' stamp cards are set to 24 hours.
The 24-hour system is commonly known as military time. It is commonly used by the military, government, transportation services, hospitals, and similar organizations.
Instead of the daytime hours of 1 a.m. to 12 p.m., the 24-hour clock starts at midnight and lasts until midnight the next day. It does not use the am/pm designations that indicate whether an hour is morning or afternoon.
